Community

Coomers are proud to be actively involved in supporting the local community through sponsorships and support of many local charities, schools, clubs and events.

Here are just a handful of our community activities in recent years.

Thank You from Help for Heroes
A BIG thank you to all our customers who helped us raise the magnificent sum of £1,727.62 for Help for Heroes, our adopted charity for 2011. This was raised through collections in our branches and through fundraising at corporate events.

Coomers Sponsor Oakhanger Church Resoration 2012
The Oakhanger village community has launched a 2012 campaign to raise funds for the much needed restoration of St Mary Magdalene Church. This major project - to repair and decorate the fabric of the building and garden - is estimated to cost £43,000. The campaign got off to a good start with donations from Coomers and other local businesses, pictured here with their generous donations. (Further information about the project and campaign can be obtained from Carol McMeekan on 01420 476098.)

Woodlea Primary School Tree Planting 22 Sep 2011
Pupils at Woodlea Primary School planted eleven spruce tree seedlings on 22 September 2011 to mark the United Nations International Year of Forests. The trees are some of the 100 million new trees grown this year by SCA Timber of Sweden, whose forests cover an area equivalent of 3.5 million football pitches. Pictured here are the 12 School Councillors from Woodlea who helped to plant the seedlings, along with Simon Larham from SCA Timber, Mrs Humphrey from Woodlea School and Martyn Hammond from Coomers.

Coomers compete in Polypipe Regatta 2011
The Coomers yacht at the 13th annual Polypipe Sailing Regatta on 1 July 2011 at Port Solent. Sadly the complete lack of breeze made racing almost impossible and we finished in 42nd place out of 66! However, a day of relaxation on a calm sea in balmy temperatures was enjoyed by all. The event raised £10,000 for the British Heart Foundation & John Merricks Sailing Trust.

Headley Legends v Tottenham Hotspur Legends 2011
Headley Youth FC were grateful for our sponsorship of the Headley Legends v Tottenham Hotspur Legends football match in July 2011. The day was a huge success, with 900 spectators turning out. With our help they made a profit in excess of £5,000, which will be used to keep subs down, maintain the pitches and provide equipment and kit for over 250 playing members.
